I had started the Lords of the Starship ...Hi Ralph<br /><br />I had started the Lords of the Starship some time ago, got distracted and put it down. However even at the time I found it quite good and I am reading it in light of a blog post in the near future. At that time I will link to your discussion which I was really interested to read. I am in my early 60's and while I was not as much of a futurist/optimist as many SF readers that came to the genre before me (an example would be the late Bud Webster who has many essays on the web) I did think, as you state, that science and technology would provide a better future. Wow, was I wrong. I was travelling when your post first appeared but I wanted to let your know how much I appreciated the way you couched, the discussion of your experience of SF with Geston's book as a concrete example.
